State to pay for entire Main Street resurfacing
By William Kincaid as printed in the Daily Standard February 7, 2008ROCKFORD-The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) will pay for the complete resurfacing of Main Street, Village Administrator Jeff Long announced.
During the regular village council meeting on Tuesday evening, Long told council members of ODOT’s offer and said he would have more information in a few weeks. Main Street was damaged this summer due to excessive traffic--especially semi trailers--as it was marked as a detour route during the closing of State Route 49 and U.S. 127.
U.S. 127 was being repaired in Van Wert, and State Route 49 was closed between Rockford West and Winkler roads for three bridge replacements. Both resulted in traffic being rerouted through Rockford.
“It got ate up pretty good,” Long said about the street, which has not been completely resurfaced since 1998.
Long did not know how much such a project would cost the state, but said Main Street stretches about five blocks.
